MARUTI SUZUKI...vision of one man!!

“Holding a stake of 54% in the Auto market, Maruti Suzuki is the unbeatable leader of the Indian Automobile Industry”.

We actually know that!!

But how did they make it as a Market Dominant??

Well, letz go back...to know this!!

…A person who wanted to change the face of the Indian Auto scenario…
Sanjay Gandhi, son of Late Mrs.Indira Gandhi envisioned the manufacture of indigenous, cost-effective, low maintenance compact car for the Indian middle class. He wanted to lift the lifestyle of the people to a level where they can be provided Comfort & Mileage at an affordable price.
A TOUGH dream….
Yes, indeed… as the market was already ruled by The Hindustan Motors and their car Ambassador was the chief car with their new entrant Premier Padmini slowly gaining a part of the market share dominated by them.
But there’s a saying…
“If my mind can conceive it, and my heart can believe it, I know I can achieve it.”
…Jesse Jackson quotes

He believed his dreams, and moved forward…

With his company named “Maruti”, Sanjay Gandhi was gifted the exclusive Contract & License by his mama’s government to design, develop and manufacture the People’s car.

By the way moving away from the track…is this where the term PEOPLE’S CAR came in from???
Hey, I think we caught on somebody!!

So finally a dream to come true…Ha!!
I guess, not really….

There were obstacles on the way of his vision…
Bankruptcy hitted his company and Sanjay along with his mother Mrs. Indira Gandhi started the search for a partner with whom they can move ahead with the dream. They conversed with giants of Japan - Toyota, Honda and Nissan and not really were interested with Suzuki since it was a small player. But faith had some thing else meant for Maruti, you got it right… i.e. SUZUKI.

But tragedy hit them again!!
Sanjay Gandhi passed away mid-way through his dream…but his mother carried it forward…
Maruti entered into the collaboration with Suzuki Motors. The collaboration led to the revolution in the Indian car industry by production of the Maruti 800the DREAM CAR of Sanjay Gandhi…

If he would have been alive, he could see that he actually REVOLUTIONIZED the Indian Automobile Industry…

This is when Maruti Suzuki started its tour of success!!

1 last question...

  7. Couple of rumors about the name:
    1. Those days it was rumoured that Sanjay Gandhi had a fancy for this name on account of a childhood attraction.
    2. Maruti is a name of Lord Hanuman, the most powerful and benevolent
